Not Chinese Takeout - “Makes No Difference”

  • Jun 30
  • 2 min read

Slush

  • Grungy

  • Baggy jeans and hands in pockets

Apple (Bravo! Johnny)

  • This doesn’t sound like the same band

  • Band would go hard in 1996

  • Now it’s like 3 different songs

  • Ooh, keep the yelly bits.

  • 4 different songs

Makes No Difference

  • I’m feeling the start of this song

  • Where did the pop punk band come from?

  • This album is scattered genre-wise. Like a kid with ADHD trying to put together a model airplane while reading a book and watching YouTube fishing videos

Empty Town

  • I’m always a sucker for talk-singing in the background

  • This song feels like eating cotton candy

  • I’d put this in the background of a commercial for a small amusement park or county fair

Mountain Route (Better In September)

  • I seriously can’t tell if this band is alt-rock, punk, emo, or contemporary.

  • Each song gets cooler. If this album were a line graph, it would have a positive slope. Rise over run. or PEMDAS. or whatever

  • I’d sit silently and stare at the wall to this

Passenger Queen

  • Legitimately, no lane for this band. Just tossing tunes against the wall like wet spaghetti.

  • It’s sticking tho. I’m here for it.

  • Banger

Wish List

  • Sad boys get hammered to this song.

  • This song reminds me of eating California burritos in La Jolla

Worst Of It

  • This is the opening band at a show that you haven’t heard of, but leave liking and for sure buy their hoodies

  • The soundtrack for a pensive walk by the river

  • The music video should be heavily light-filtered and exclusively show taking pictures down from the walls of a house

Say So

  • Oh. Ok. So we end like we started.

  • Hoodies on over the beanie

  • This song feels like a pocket knife.

  • Bookending.

I give this album: switching your converse laces from white ones to black ones, gas station boner pills, 2 picks lost in the sound hole of an acoustic guitar, a good scratch on a nagging mosquito bite, and a half-assed serenity prayer at a begrudgingly attended AA meeting
